Environmental Responsibility

Whilst all this frolicking in the streets, tantalising of taste buds and general adventuring is going on, #WOF18 is also making moves to reduce the festival’s impact on the local environment.

We’ve been listening to and learning from Whitstable’s greatest asset – the Sea. The Sea has played some seriously strong PR moves recently and for 2018 in conjunction with some pro-active Whitstable change-makers, we’ll be bringing the call to reduce damaging disposable plastic waste front and centre.  It’s not going to all magically disappear overnight, it’s a step by step game, but some first important ones will arrive at the festival in 2018.  Step by step.

There will be a number of ways to join in and learn about this theme throughout the festival, including community beach cleans and workshops, but getting started is easy – just remember: #LoveWhitstable #LeaveNoTrace

What we’re doing: Practical actions
Festival Vision 2025: Pledge to reduce carbon usage by 50%
– Food Fair packaging: Only compostable food packaging allowed
– Crew Water: No single use plastic drinking bottles used
– Litter Picks: Targetted litter picking at hotspot locations and beaches

What you can do: Practical actions
– Use bins or take your rubbish home: Sounds simple – is simple
– Join the Beach Clean: Look out for more info to come
– Volunteer with local groups: We will have information available at the event sites
– Attend workshops at the Horsebridge Arts Centre to create up-cycled parade sculptures

Would you like the opportunity to perform at this year's Whitstable Oyster Festival??

We are looking for performers of all kinds to join us in this years programming.

If you think you have what it takes to entertain the masses, drop us a line at wof@fulleventproduction #wof19
