the Grotters

Date: Sunday 22nd July, 2018
Start Time:16:00
(event ends at approximately 21:00)
Sunset:20:58
Location:Reeves Beach

As unique to Whitstable as 86 year old working fisherman and #WOF18 poster boy Derek West himself, the Grotters are a true icon of the festival. Join with friends, family and neighbours in the afternoon to take part in the traditional activity of building a small dome “Grotter” out of oyster shells, on Reeves Beach – or wait until twilight falls and take a stroll through the magical and mesmerising display of the Grotters glowing in the gathering darkness.

A real Whitstable moment…

As the philosopher Jagger once said:
“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes…”
Whitstable Harbour returns.
