THE WHITSTABLE PORTRAITS

We are incredibly proud to have partnered with the wonderfully talented and distinctive artist Nicola Ulldemolins in featuring her popular Whitstable Portraits series for the WOF18 announcement posters!

“This body of work is an exploration into what makes a community, a town or city survive and thrive. It is, of course, the people working in their chosen professions that drive the businesses, run the schools, churches and services who add colour and culture… in this case in the town of Whitstable.”

– Nicola Ulldemolins

We simply couldn’t say it better ourselves.  The people are the town, is the people, are the festival, is the town…

Watch this space and our social media feeds for a brand-new Nicola Ulldemolins work on the way as part of the WOF18 announcements!

Profile of the artist:

Nicola has a 1st class BA(Hons) degree in Three Dimensional Design, specialising in metals. Her most recent work is predominantly painting and portraiture. Nicola has painted different subject matter, including architecture and classic cars and commissions can cover varied themes. She has also completed a short course in stone masonry.

Having had a career in Retail Management spanning 25 years, Nicola worked in fashion, picture framing and luxury bathroom design and sales, to name a few. Creativity is always inherent in her work and now to be a full time artist has been her ultimate goal.

The Whitstable Portraits was a substantial body of work, spanning two years in the making and led to 16 portraits of local professional people. It was well received by the people of the town and generated a very heartwarming and affectionate response. The work embodied a rich level of detail surrounding each subject, this was to capture the spaces and environments that these people worked in. It was also designed to showcase Nicola’s broad level of expertise at painting all different manner of objects and surfaces, whether they are organic or mechanical.

Since then Nicola has successfully completed a number of private commissions. She consults with the client about their individual aim for each project. Often the subject matter is highly emotive and requires a level of sensitivity, both in the process of painting and in the communication with the client. Progress emails can be sent to keep the project on track and within the wishes of the client. This level of service and respect for the client stems from years of working with the public, only the work is now of a more personal level. She is building her reputation on creating unique work, while maintaining her individual colour palette and style of painting.

Currently living in Faversham, Kent, she loves to cook and to spend time with friends and loved ones, eating out, keeping fit and enjoying the countryside and sea air while walking her dog.
